What is a Network?
Computers connected to a network with categorized as servers or workstations. Servers are generally not used by humans directly, but Server run continuously to provide "services" to the computers System on the network. Services provided can include printing and faxing, software hosting, file storage and sharing, data storage and retrieval, complete access control (security) for the network's resources.
Disadvantage of LAN
Two or more computers are connected with cable in order to share printer, Transfer files one system to other and sharing Internet.
Computer Networks are the backbone of all modern businesses everyone used pc for their accounts, email or Internet access with different operating systems (Windows XP, Vista, Linux, Mac OS X) server software and applications.
There are three types of networks :-
- Local Area Network (LAN)
- Wide Area Network (WAN)
- Metropolitan Area Network (MAN
- Local Area Network (LAN):-
A local area network (LAN) is a network that connects computers and other devices in a relatively small area, typically a single building or a group of buildings. Most LANs connect workstations and personal computers and enable users to access data and devices (printers and modems) anywhere on the network in Building.

Advantage of LAN:-
⦁ You can share peripherals like expensive laser printers.
⦁ File server can be used to store and share documents and files centrally.
⦁ The computers on the network can be centrally managed.
Disadvantage of LAN
⦁ Network security can be a problem. If a virus gets into one computer it spread quickly across the network because it will get into the central backing store.
2. Wide Area Network (WAN):-
A wide area network (WAN) is a computer network geographical consists of two or more interconnected local area networks(LANs). A LAN is a network that connects computers and other devices in a relatively small area, like a single building or a group of buildings.
Wide Area Networks (WANs) connect networks in larger geographic areas, such as Location 1 in One State and Location 2 In other state of country. Dedicated transmission through cabling or satellite uplinks may be used to connect this type of global network.
Advantage of WAN:-
⦁ Wide Area Networks (Wan) covers large geographical area of networks can be made between long distances.
⦁ Shares software and resources are connecting with workstations.
Disadvantage of WAN:-
⦁ Setting up the network could be very expensive.
⦁ Security is a real issue when many different people have the ability to use information from other computers.
